A Baker who strives to provide excellent baked items with consistency and open to explore new and creative options. Familiarity with using plant based and gluten free ingredients. The Baker will design, execute, and improve recipes, perform quality checks on ingredients and finished products, use icing, glazes, fillings, and decorations to enhance item presentation, and process custom orders from customers. Regular items will include sandwich bread and buns, rolls/breadsticks, English muffins, cinnamon rolls, croissants, tarts, and cakes. Baker will have the ability to test recipes for specials and future regular offerings.

Activities & Responsibilities

  • Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of The Park Side Café.
  • Understand and comply with standard portion sizes, baking and cooking methods, quality standards, and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Follow all health and safety rules in the kitchen.
  • Have awareness of common allergies and ingredients.
  • Set up workstations.
  • Refer to daily prep list at the start of each shift for assigned duties.
  • Wash, peel, and cut various foods, such as fruits and vegetables, to prepare for baking.
  • Roll, knead, cut, or shape dough to form breads, buns, pie crusts, tarts, or other products.
  • Set oven temperatures and monitor or modify as needed.
  • Ice, glaze, and decorate baked goods.
  • Prepare and maintain inventory.
  • Clean and sanitize work station area including tables, shelves, walls, ovens, mixers, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Label and store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage.
  • Participate in dish washing, helping to load dishes, utensils, glasses and silverware into dishwashing machines.
  • Take out recycling, compost and any garbage. Wash out dirty bins as needed.
  • Complete opening and closing checklists and assist others in opening and closing the kitchen.
  • Promptly inform managers when equipment is not working properly and when food and supplies are getting low, and order needed items.
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and offers suggestions for improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One or more years of experience in baking
  • Familiarity with baking and kitchen equipment and utensils
  • Attention to detail in all aspects of baking
  • Experience with vegan baking is preferred.
  • Experience with gluten free baking is a plus!
  • Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
  • Able to communicate effectively with managers and kitchen personnel
  • Able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift- up to 40 pounds
  • Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time
  • Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchen
